A New Hope: The New Moon in Libra
At 1.23pm this afternoon (21/10/2025), the New Moon will be in full effect. This time of the month is always a good time to set intentions moving forward for what you wish to achieve in this lunar cycle, but this one is especially auspicious, helping us to move forward from the havoc that has been continuously wreaked during recent times.
In Libra co-present dignified Venus as the sign’s ruler, the Sun and Moon are ready to negotiate a contract for peace, harmony, and much needed moderation for the foreseeable future. Now is the perfect time to determine how you can create balance and positive relationship in your life. If you, like many, have felt the full force of extremism from either end of any scale, now is the time to find agreement and compromise somewhere in the middle of the spectrum. We are rediscovering how to be fair and how to get along with people who we do not like or agree with. This is what Libra has to teach us.
This social skill is especially important at present as we have another dignified planet with a lot of power during this lunation: Mars in his underworld throne of Scorpio. Mars does not have a desire for peace, rather the opposite. And so tightly conjunct Mercury, Mars wages war through words and communications. There is a snarl underlying our speech and a subtle ambition that propels us forward at the moment. So whilst everything may seem above board and conciliatory, the negotiators have a hidden agenda that they will be finding sneaky ways to push. This energy doesn’t completely undermine the good work of Venus, but it does provide an element that we should stay aware of and use in the most positive manner we can do. Some of the less harmful ways this Mars-Mercury conjunction can be used are to help set intentions that require strong drive, ambition, and endurance, as well as to attack tasks that ask you to dig beneath the surface. This is an especially useful transit for the establishing of strong but fair debate and keen analytical and research ability. And what is more, we see a lot of repeating factors in the natal chart of somebody very present in the public eye right now.
Above, you will see a chart that also has the Sun and Moon in Libra, albeit with Jupiter co-present rather than Venus, and a Mars-Mercury conjunction in Scorpio too. This is the natal chart of Charlie Kirk. Unfortunately, we have no birth time and so this is a chart cast for midday on the day of his birth, but those repeating factors are something we can be certain were the case for the full 24 hours covering his birth day. Interestingly, today in the United Kingdom, the Oxford Union announced that their president-elect had been subject to a vote of no confidence and was being removed from his post for appearing to celebrate and mock the assassination of Kirk last month. Regardless of which side of this debate you sit, it is a perfect analogy and strange repetition that should be noted. Charlie Kirk represented this energy very well - Libran desire to communicate with the Other, those who disagree, and to build a life around them, to truly consider and give a voice to their perspective, combined with a Scorpio edge and ability to challenge and debate in highly effective ways. It is up to us what we choose to do with this energy as it infuses our intentions for the month ahead.
Something that we can be grateful for, in both the natal chart of Charlie Kirk and in the chart for the lunation of the New Moon, is the presence of Jupiter. Whereas Kirk had Jupiter closely conjunct his Sun in Libra, we have a superior square from Jupiter exalted in Cancer blessing our intentions with an ability to nurture them and feed what we gain, materially and spiritually, in a way that meets our needs, rather than granting ourselves with needless abundance. This lunation will make us feel better, not just help us to be better, although it will hopefully do that too. There is a hope and optimism to this lunation that we can use to our advantage. In such uncertain times, that optimism, paired with the savvy intellect of Mercury-Mars in Scorpio, can keep us armoured yet open to better times ahead.
