What I do & why I’m different
The world is grotesque at the min, innit? The pressure is dialling up bit by bit by the second and everybody is expected to contribute to it. A person that says they don’t want to get political is told they must. A person who politely disagrees is told that they are an oppressor or a bigot or woke. Assumptions are extrapolated out of small nuanced facts and treated as though they are 100% true. People cut each other out of their lives if they don’t fit nicely into their own personal echo chambers. We are smothered and suppressed by algorithms, AI, and expectations and the rawness of individuality is being zapped out of everybody and everything.
I’ve been studying astrology for years but I put off the pursuit of a professional career as an astrologer for so many reasons. I didn’t want to be seen as stupid or as a blind believer. I’m actually incredibly sceptical and I base everything I do in theory and research. It’s just that I put more stock in 2nd century academics than many that exist today. But knowing only what is written in books is not enough. The book of life brings us the wisdom of experience and the combination of theory and practice brings true, deep understanding of ourselves, our lives, and the world around us.
I’ll tell you something else that put me off. I didn’t think I was allowed to be here. I’m not a spiritual woo type of person. I’m not all love and light. I don’t look or sound perfect. I’m not middle class. I’m not left-wing. I don’t put pronouns in my bio or build my entire life around the protests I attend. I don’t have an issue with people who do any of these things but I’m constantly aware that many of them have a problem with me.
I’m a Libra rising, ruled by a Venus in Aries. In real terms, this means that I’m deeply invested in fair relationship and justice, but in a way that respects the genuine individuality of people, not just the type of individuality that seems cool at the time. Even when something sounds harsh, horrible, or wrong to my own worldview, I recognise that it is a matter of difference. As long as somebody does not call for or cause harm towards somebody else, I think they are free to think, feel, and be however they wish. Astrology, in my mind, has such power because it has the ability to explain the intricacies of the differences and uniqueness of each individual. I’m not just conservative, I’m also an astrologer, and I’m not just a stay-at-home mum, but I’m also a business owner. I run a local women’s group but all of my friends are male. The gothic literature of Wilde and Stoker sits alongside my tarot and astrology books. The Making of the English Working Class sits alongside the works of Douglas Murray. Spotify knows I want to listen to Morrissey and that I’m also obsessed with Eurovision. I like to walk for miles in nature and I like to sit for hours and play video games. My favourite thing to watch on TV is the wrestling but my favourite film is Moulin Rouge! and I otherwise exclusively watch horror films. None of us are one thing. We are many. And astrology knows and remembers that when people don’t.
The reality is that we are not on the opposite side of a permanent line that none of us can hope to cross. We are actually, each and every one of us, a combination of factors that help us to overlap and also pull away from other people. You could take any person in the world and you would have some things in common and some things that differ. Anybody. That’s life. That’s people.
So I decided that I wanted to do astrology in a way that is truly impartial and designed to make the best of who you are, not to push who I am onto you. It doesn’t matter who I am or what I believe. It’s about you and who you specifically are here to become. Bias and preference have no place in an ethical astrological practice.
If you have grown tired of constant judgement and you want to be seen for who you really are, warts and all, come to me. The only thing I shy away from is dishonesty. If you are ready to turn up and show me everything you are, I can show you everything you have the power to become. Don’t bother about what everybody else is doing. Do it your way. I’d be honoured to come along for the ride.
